Kendra, tell us about your book?

Rescued by Love is a “testament” of God’s Love. I really prefer not to call it an autobiography because although the book talks about my life experiences, the prevailing message I want to be heard is that God’s Love can deliver you out of any situation or any dark area in your life.

In the beginning of the book, I talk about the power of a testimony....Growing up we use to have what we called “Testimony Service”. In this service (which would sometimes go for hours), we testified about what God had done for us so that #1) It could give glory to God #2) It could be an encouragement to somebody else.
When I wrote this book, I had those 2 things in mind.. Giving glory to God & encouraging somebody else who may be in a place in their lives where they feel discouraged and like nobody loves them – not even God.

I believe people are looking for transparency and we need to get back to sharing out story. Testimonies are effective and they are powerful. That’s what witnessing is about. Not necessarily throwing a ton of scriptures at somebody, but simply sharing what Jesus did for you ….. and in that – you can still share the word of God and how the word and the demonstration of Christ’s love changed your life.

Secondly, in this book I make reference to God’s Unconditional, Unending and Unfailing Love. These are the characteristics of “the God kind of love” that I’ve personally experienced.

Unconditional love – Romans 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. It doesn’t mean that God loves everything we do, but rather His love for us is not like man’s … it doesn’t fluctuate - meaning He doesn’t care more for us when we please Him or less when we have failed or sinned against Him. He died on the cross so that EVERYONE could be redeemed and experience eternal life. His love for us is so pure, compassionate, intense and powerful that He loves us even when don’t love ourselves. The very essence of who He is - is Love.

Unending love – 1 Chronicles 16:34 NIV Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. We have a covenant of Love. His love is unending .. It’s everlasting.
Unfailing love – Psalm 48:9 NIV Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. Psalm 107:8 NIV Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. God’s love is unfailing. He never stops loving us. There is nothing we can do to make God stop loving us. We don’t have to wonder about his Love. His love never fails.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve shared my testimony and someone has said that needs to be in a book. It just so happens that I love to write …. God begin to give a desire to write my story.

He gave me the title of this book about 3 years ago, but I didn't attempt to start writing this book until the beginning of last year ... And after getting only a couple of chapters drafted, this book went into what I call a paralyzed state (some people call it writers block) whatever it was, I couldn't compose in writing what needed to be said in this book.

On 9/2/14, I was laid off my job and it wasn't even a month later that this book was birthed.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

Once I stepped into the “season” to write this book and God begin speaking to me, it was easy to write. I found myself in a writing marathon and completed the book in two days. Of course we’ve been editing the book and tweeking here and there, but for the most part, the book was birthed in two days which was amazing to me.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

1) I don’t care how ugly your past or present situation is, God can take it and use it for His glory if you allow Him to.
2) Unless hurt is healed, it will manifest negatively in your life.
3) Forgive so that you can be free to live – release those who have wronged you and allow God to heal you.
4) God is a God of restoration

Who are your favorite authors?

Geesh! So many … but I would have to say Joyce Meyer and Dr Myles Munroe top the list.

REVIEWS

Kimberley awakens children (and adults) to the immense knowledge that can be found in the Bible. In this book Kimberley focusses on some of the trees found in Scripture. She tells short stories related to the "tree Scripture"; asks questions; gives a few interesting (and to me unknown) facts and gives various activities to review the information.
The artwork is delightful and colourful.
I found, even as an adult, that I learned much from this little book.
It would be perfect for homeschoolers; Christian Schools and Sunday Schools.
Bravo Kimberley for a great resource.
Jan Cox, retired teacher

Trees of the Book by Kimberly Payne is a great children’s activity book describing some of the trees mention in the Bible. It is well written and illustrated.
I found the description of the trees very informative, easy to understand on an elementary level. It is fun the way she related each to a passage in the Bible describing how God actually used that type of tree. The activity section with each tree was both a learning tool and fun to do. This book will keep your child’s interested. I enjoyed Trees of the Book by Kimberly Payne and highly recommend it. It is a must add to your entire child’s home reading and would make an awesome Bible study addition.

Author Interview

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a wife and a mother of two teenagers, two cats, and lots of fish. I love to walk and hike in the great outdoors, and consider myself an amateur photographer who loves to take tons of pictures of nature.

Why did you write the book?

I find the stories in the Bible fascinating, and wanted to explore some of them from a different perspective.

Who is this book written for?

Trees of the Book was written for children ages 7 to 9. It can also be used as a supplemental book to the Growth and Changes in Plants Curriculum for Canadian teachers in grades two/three.

What qualifies you to write this book?

I am an award-winning self-published writer and a member of The Word Guild and Inscribe Christian Writer’s Fellowship. I have volunteered as a teacher with many children’s programs at my church, as a teacher’s aid for student’s reading, and within the library at my children’s school. Currently, I am an elementary school secretary for the Separate School Board. I love to combine my teaching experience and love of writing to create educational materials for children about family, fitness, science and faith.

What do you like to do to get away from it all?

I love to hike in the woods, and take pictures of plants, animals and trees.

What is the PRIMARY benefit, above all others, that your potential reader will gain from reading this book?

It is an easy and fun way to learn about the trees in popular Bible stories.
If you had to compare this book to any other book out there, which book would it be?
Any Sunday school curriculum, take-home Bible studies, children’s activity book.
Hundreds of thousands of books come out every year.

Why should someone buy THIS book?

7 different trees tell a Bible story from their individual viewpoint. Readers learn specifics about the tree and the scriptural account.

 Who is your target audience?

Teachers, caregivers and mothers interested in leading their children in the Christian faith and teaching them about the Bible.

What was the inspiration (motivation) behind the book?

As an avid walker, I have a love and appreciation for nature, especially walking through the woods. I also like to read the Bible and found myself curious about the trees mentioned in scripture. At the time I started my research I was actively involved in children’s ministry in my church so wanted to share what I learned in an entertaining format for the children. I produced one-sheets to fit into the weekly bulletins and featured one tree a week for seven weeks. I collected these together and added facts about each tree with fun activities. And voila, I had the beginnings of this book!

What do you hope this book accomplishes?

I hope the readers gain a new appreciation for trees while learning a little more about stories in the Bible. And I hope they have fun too!
