Can one night lead to forever?

Kassidy Monroe has spent far too many nights alone. But could she actually go through with a one-night stand? No! At least, that’s her answer until her eyes settle on him—tall, dark, and ultra-mysterious behind a black and platinum mask that makes him even more appealing. It’s lust at first sight, but how far is she willing to go with a man she’s just met?
Jaxon Prescott has always gone after what he wants. And he wants her—the sexy vixen in the feather mask. Something about her calls to him, and he’s all too willing to answer. An invitation to his hotel suite was supposed to be for a night she wouldn’t soon forget, but somehow the tables turn. He never imagines he’d be the one constantly reliving their time together.

One need. One night. One unforeseen outcome.

Romance Eternelle Virtual Book Tour

 About The Book

A young woman in France finds her heart broken and seeks solace from her sister. Reluctantly seeking help from a monk, she has an unusual dining experience. He discloses a tale that feels like a veil being lifted from her eyes. Involving a prostitute and a priest, this story captivates and entices the young lady. The otherworldly descriptions of grace and the Holy Spirit prove to be her undoing, challenging what she thought she already knew. Her intimacy lost proves to be a doorway to that which often people can only dream.
Rarely is there a book that inspires one to the Divine that doesn't involve work and discipline of some sort. As an unusual Christian romance novel, this story opens the reader to a mode of following God that seems almost too good and too easy to be true. As this allegory unfolds, a mystical reality birthed in earliest Christianity is illuminated, drawing attention to the origin of true love, grace and the promised freedom we all desire. Monks and nuns, the Catholic church and even Protestants have at times attested to such ecstasy. Freedom and joy is often elusive though, as struggle, work and sin seem to be unnecessarily common amongst many of us. The world often sees only hypocrisy. The ache for real freedom and fulfillment has never been more apparent.

About The Author

Lawrence Miquelon is actually first and foremost a registered nurse. He has a wife and grown children, and has been working in the Intensive Care Unit with children for about twenty years. He grew up in the presence of a number of ministries, and continues to participate in missions together with his family and friends. He was raised in Southern California and enjoys nature and long distance barefoot running. Having been raised his entire life in the church, he saw the shortcomings in his life and others that are all too common.

Something personal, deeply spiritual and simple happened in himself and his family. He felt compelled to write a book that illustrates a level of intimate spirituality that seems almost too good to be true and is occurring to ordinary people today. He explains, "It's as though I have stumbled upon a hidden treasure of which only a small percentage of believers are aware. The book I've written is a portal into that treasure."

HIDDEN UNDER HER HEART (A Story of Abortion & Courage) by Rachelle Ayala

Today I'm featuring friend, blogger and author Rachelle Ayala

Welcome, Rachelle The Spotlight Is On You.

Rachelle, Tell us about yourself?

I am a mother of three (or four, counting my son Ross) who loves to read, write, and arithmetic (I was a math major). I am a born-again Christian and play the violin, mountain dulcimer and mandolin.

Tell us about your book?

Hidden Under Her Heart is a story about a young nurse struggling with her decision to abort after being raped. It shows the emotional consequences of abortion on both men and women.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

2013 marks 40 years of legalized abortion in the United States. 53 million lives have been lost and countless others have been impacted. I decided to write a non-political fictional story exploring both sides of the abortion decision. One out of every three women of childbearing age in America has had an abortion. I would bet that a similar percentage of men have been touched by it. I came up with the idea while brainstorming a romantic suspense about a woman who wanted to catch a rapist by keeping her baby. The story transformed into something different when I realized prenatal testing could very well extract the baby’s DNA, so there went my plot!

What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your book?

To examine their feelings about abortion beyond the labels of pro-life and pro-choice. Too many of us take polarizing labels and positions without consideration of the feelings of those in the opposite camp. My two protagonists are in love, but disagree on the fundamental issue of abortion on demand. At the end, both of them are transformed.

Where can visitors find you online?

My blog http://www.rachelleayala.com where I feature author interviews and guest posts is a lively place. Readers can also find me at my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/rachelleayalawriter and send me a message. I welcome readers to talk back to me and let me know what they feel about my books.

E-mail me directly if you wish: ayala (dot) rachelle (at) gmail (dot) com

What inspired you to write this book?

My friend, Matt Patterson, wrote a book about his daughter, Emily, who had Down syndrome and died of leukemia at a young age. I have a son who was born at 26 weeks gestation and lived only 3 weeks in the NICU. Matt encouraged me to write something that would heal my wounds. I did it by revisiting the entire pregnancy and birth, looked at all the pictures, read my journal and tackled it head on. After all the grief, there is only acceptance and reliance on God’s grace.

What’s next for you?

I’ll probably write another romantic suspense. I really enjoy that genre and look forward to plotting diabolical villains and explosive situations. I don’t have anything concrete right now because I am decompressing from Hidden Under Her Heart.

How can someone get a copy of the book?

It is currently available in ebook only because I’m waiting for my cover designer to complete the wraparound cover. It is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Smashwords.

Readers can find all of the links at my Book Page: http://www.rachelleayala.com/p/hidden-under-her-heart.html

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

I am a character-driven writer so getting into the head of my female main character, Maryanne Torres, was very difficult. I had to imagine myself raped, pregnant and struggling with the decision to abort. I hope I didn’t come across too clichéd, but I did have to rewrite chapter 17 several times [the one where she discusses her decision with her boyfriend, Lucas]. Revisiting the scenes of my son’s short life was also hard, but in some sense it was cathartic.

Did you have to do any special research for your book?

I read abortion survivors’ stories on the internet, scoured bulletin boards and forums, and experienced the distress and heartbreak caused by hasty decisions. One of the questions I ask at the end is, that if you’ve had an abortion, how does your feelings about it change through the years. I imagine if you had one when you were a teen, you were probably relieved. But as the years roll by, and you have another child, then become a grandmother, your feelings change. I saved myself from doing research on the rape by having my protag drugged and unable to remember it. I didn’t want to divert the story into a PTSD situation and dilute my plotline.

Why do you write?

Is it something you've always done, or always wanted to do? Or is it something that you started fairly recently?

I write as long as I have something begging to be said. I’ve written on and off through childhood and college, but when I became a software engineer, I concentrated mostly in writing code and technical specifications. My first full length novel was Michal’s Window, inspired by my study of the Bible and wondering what it would be like to be King David’s tragic first wife.

How did you feel when you got the first copy of your book?

I haven’t received a copy yet because it is not available in print. But since I do my own formatting and prep work, it doesn’t feel as exciting, but more like relief that it is finally done.

Hidden Under Her Heart (A Story of Abortion & Courage) was released January 2013 in remembrance of Roe v Wade’s 40th Anniversary.

The Synopsis

Maryanne Torres is a compassionate nurse who fails at relationships. After a string of losers, she swears off premarital sex, hoping to land a marrying type of man.
Lucas Knight, a law-school dropout, moves to California to train for the Ironman Triathlon. He's smart, sweet, and everything Maryanne wants in a man, but their relationship suffers from his dedication to the sport. Seeking consolation in the arms of a handsome preacher's son, Maryanne attends a church party where she is raped.
Maryanne is pregnant from the rape and plans to abort. But the identity of her rapist is hidden in her baby's DNA. Lucas asks Maryanne to seek alternatives and pledges to support her through the pregnancy. When Lucas becomes the prime suspect, Maryanne must clear his name and make a life changing decision.
The rapist has other ideas. In order to destroy the evidence, he offers Maryanne an illegal offshore abortion. With Maryanne's life in danger, Lucas races to save her and her baby. However, Maryanne hides a secret that threatens to tear them apart forever.

Author Feature Dijorn Moss

Welcome Dijorn The Spotlight Is On You

Tell us about yourself

I am someone who is constantly analyzing my relationships. My relationship with God remains my most important relationship. I always want to make sure that I am setting the best example for my son Caleb. Am I being attentive to my wife Trinea’s needs? Finally, am I giving my readers stories that are both inspiring and exciting to read?

Tell our readers about your journey to writing
In my humble opinion, writing has always been and will always be the most powerful tool a human being could possess. I started writing because I felt like I did not have a voice. I started writing became I was moved and inspired by the stories and the poems of other writers. I started writing because I can’t dance and I don’t have a jump shot.
Tell us about your journey becoming a successfully published author
Do you have anyone in your life that was heavily influential in your deciding to become an author? When I write I think about my mother. My mother worked rotating shifts at a job that was traditionally held by men. Who will tell her story of courage and struggles to raise two children? I will and a teacher name Iris helped me when she introduced me to poetry. From poetry I expanded to writing plays and from plays I expanded to writing novels.

What was your path towards publication like?
Emotional and hard.  My first love is playwriting. I had a play I wrote entitled Mothers to the Struggle   at the time the play was being reviewed by two perspective theaters. I applied for the ABC Writing Fellowship and I applied for Graduate School. I also wrote the first four chapters of a novel called My father’s House in which it was tore up by my professor and classmates. In a span of two weeks everything one of those opportunities fell through and then I submitted the first four chapters of my novel to Urban Christian. I thought that I was only setting myself up for further disappointment when I got a call from my editor Joy congratulating me and offering me a book deal. Like I said emotionally and hard, but to God be the Glory!

What books or authors made a difference in your life?
Recently the Alchemist has had a huge impact on my life. The book has reminded me how important it is to pursue your dreams and how not to settle. I recommend that book to everyone. As far as authors goes, I am a big fan of Toni Morrison, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, James Baldwin, Michael Connelly and Sista Soulja. All of these authors have influenced me in some way and I continue to tell to them for knowledge, wisdom and inspiration.

What have you realized about yourself since becoming a published author?
That writing is what I was meant to do with my life. These years I have faced a lot of tragic moments and yet my writing never fell off and I continued to grow and improve as a writer. If I can face tragedy and still be able to perform at my best, then I am meant to write.
In writing your novels, how do your develop the plot? Did you have difficulty keeping the story on point? How much research was required, if any? The plot comes rather quickly for me so I keep a journal on me at all times. When an idea for a story comes I think of a way that I can put a different spin on the story. Every story has already been written so the key is how well can you make your story new and fresh and better than the previous stories? After that I think of the characters that will drive the story and how will they make this story work. Of course the characters end up taking my simple story in a different direction and I am grateful as a result. As far as research goes, I save that for the rewrites, I leave the first draft for my instincts and the subsequent drafts for my mind. It is important to research to give your characters credibility.

How do you balance your life as an author with your duties as a business person, employee, parent and/or spouse?
I use to keep hectic before my son was born. On Saturdays I use to spend 12 hours a day writing or working on a manuscript. Now that Caleb is born, I save my writing for at night when he’s asleep. I realized that I am a lot more productive. During the course of the years I will spend writing and working on various projects, I balance that with taking at least a month or two off to spend with my family. During that time I do not do any writing, I just spend quality time with my family. As far as work goes, my job allows me write while at the same time pay bills.

What is your best advice for getting past writer's block?
Does an outline, a lot of aspiring writer get too caught in what they see in the movies? They see a writer plugging away on the keys and producing this great masterpiece. An outline is a blueprint for your story and there is nothing wrong with having a blueprint before you start building especially when you get to a pivotal point in your story. Another good technique I use is when I feel like I’m not getting enough out of a character I will conduct an interview. I will take a character to every action they have committed in the story; I will ask the question why? As the character begins to explain to me why they have done certain things, I start to get a better understanding of the story.

What was the best writing-related advice you ever received?
I got great advice from my two writing mentors and Stephen King. My mentor Scott Sublett use to always ask me what my characters want and who was stopping them from getting what they want? My other mentor Ethel Walker use to ask the question of Why? Why should I care what happens to these characters? Finally, Stephen King talks about how in the early years he uses to pin his rejection letter through a nail right above his typewriter. One day the nail couldn’t hold any more rejection letters and the letters came crashing down on King. So King said he drove a spike through his rejection and kept on writing. That is what I have done, I have drove a spike through my rejections and I have kept on writing. Or as Psalms 118:22 says: “The stone which the builders reject has become the chief cornerstone.”
Can you tell us a little bit about your latest book?
The Retreat 2 picks up where the first retreat has left off. Almost a year has passed and the Four Brothers of God have grown closer as a result, but new revelations threats everything that they have worked for in the last year.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?
The Retreat 1 and 2 are inspired by my first Men’s retreat. Men get bashed on reality TV, movies, books and so forth. I felt like their needed to be a story of a group of men who uses their faith to guide them into being better husbands, fathers and men. They are not perfect men, but each day they strive to do the right thing by God and the people who they care about.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?
Writing a sequel is hard because you have to write a story that justifies a sequel in the first place. You have to offer a story that takes the reader deeper into the lives of these characters. Second you have to drown out the success of the first book because that can cause a writer to second guess themselves or cheat the reader by delivering a lackluster story.
Did you have to do any special research for your book?
I used the research I got for the first book and extended it to the follow up. I wanted the Retreat 2 to get more into the psyche of these characters and who they are and what makes them tick.

What’s ahead for your writing?
I am writing my next book which will come out next year. I am excited to have a book come out back to back years. I am also returning back to playwriting.

What opportunities have opened up because of your writing?
I have had a chance to travel and talk to people from all over the country regarding my writing. I have even had a chance to inspire people who are incarcerated. It’s been a great ride and I’m just starting to see the possibilities.

Introducting Author Janet Holm McHenry

Ask any Christian woman what her personal goals would be and she’s likely to answer, “Get more exercise, lose weight, and spend more quality time with God.” Author Janet Holm McHenry found that with the practice of prayerwalking that she could multi-task one activity into several results. An end product is her nonfiction book PrayerWalk: Becoming a Woman of Prayer, Strength and Discipline (WaterBrook), which became a best-selling book when it was released in 2001 and featured in Health magazine. It was recently re-released in a special 10th anniversary edition.

What was the inspiration or motivation behind the book?

I wrote PrayerWalk after my life had been dramatically changed by the practice of prayerwalking. I wanted to shout out that spending time with God praying for your community while you get some good exercise can make a difference in you and in those around you.

What were some of those changes?

Physically, I lost two dress sizes, and the aches and pains that had sent me regularly to pain relievers were gone. Emotionally, I found that the depression that had clouded most of my adult life had vanished. I no longer needed to hide away and cry -- the Lord was filling me up with spiritual endorphins instead! Spiritually, I also discovered that I was no longer hemmed in by irrational fears. I was free through the simple practice of prayerwalking.

And what is prayerwalking, exactly?

Prayerwalking is praying for whatever God puts within your eyesight as you walk through your community. I pray for those who live in the homes I pass. I pray for the business people in my little town. And I pray for schools and their educators by name. What I found is that disciplining my eyes to see needs in people has taught me that wherever I am, there’s a reason for prayer. I just need to look for it.

What do you hope PrayerWalk accomplishes?

We women have so little time to accomplish everything on our to-do lists for the day. PrayerWalk is a simple offering to suggest that you take time with God and pray as you also get exercise that will refresh you. The book is also a huge encouragement to show readers how their prayers can have effect in their communities.

Who is your greatest encourager when you write?

Many people have come alongside me over the years and encouraged me in my writing. My husband Craig has supported my travel to conferences and speaking events. The administrators at my high school, where I teach English full time, also have supported my writing over the years. However, I would have to say that the Lord is my biggest encourager; when I spend time with Him, he nudges me toward ideas and graces me with just the right words. I am blessed.

What else have you written?

Besides hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, I’ve written 18 other books--13 for children, including girls’ mysteries, and five other nonfiction books, four of those on prayer. My other nonfiction titles are Daily Prayerwalk, Prayer Changes Teens: How to Parent from Your Knees, Prayerstreaming, My Prayer Buddy Devotional: For a Sisterhood of Prayer Partners, and Girlfriend Gatherings: Creative Ways to Stay Connected.

Any tips for upcoming authors?

I was clueless when I started freelance writing, so I attended three weeklong writers’ conferences in the first year. I highly suggest that budding authors attend a writer’s conference, where they can connect with other writers who are excellent at teaching and marketing, agents, editors, and publishers. It’s a valuable investment, and upcoming authors should understand that writing is a business and that they will have to invest in their business to move ahead.
