Author Ornitha Danielle

Thanks Ornitha for joining us today.....

Ornitha, Tell us about yourself?

I’m the proud mother of three children and the wife to Rodney “LeeStylez” Taylor a professional photographer and graphic designer. I’m a native of Memphis, TN and now reside in Somerville, TN. I’m currently working on my degree in Speech and Theater with emphasis on Creative Writing. I’m the owner and Editor-in-Chief of my own Magazine called “So Fyh Magazine Online and So Fyh Book Reviews also. I’m the eldest of four children. I’m The So Fyh Literary Diva (D.I.V.A) means D= Divine, I= Inspired, V=Virtuous Vessel of the who am I kidding, looking at myself as a writer, But I thank God for all that I’ve learned. Staying focused on my goals, dreams and ambitions have gotten me to where I am today. If it hadn’t been for God on my side during this time, I have no idea where I would be? However I’ve made it through.

What was your path towards publication like?

I don’t believe I really had a certain path, or at least I don’t recall
Lord, A= Angel ™ ©) The D.I.V.A of all things literary. (“I’m a diva in my own right, I own my own and going to hold my own.” ™ © )

Tell our readers about your journey to writing.

Well my journey has been one ride after another. I have learned some things along this literary road, some good and some of it bad. I’d even thought to myself ll having one. All I knew was that I wanted and needed to write.

How do you balance your life as an author with your duties as a businessperson, employee, parent and/or spouse?

Funny you should ask that…. Begin a woman we had to learn to multi-task, as mother, wife, and a businesswoman, I have always danced to my own music in other words I’ve called my own shots; my life really hasn’t stopped just because I’m an author/novelist/poet that was just another aspect or ingredient to add to my life.  And now with my family all grown up now basically: having two children in college and one in high school. I have understood that it was time for me, as a woman to do a few things that I’ve always wanted to do that time hadn’t allotted for me in the past. My husband and I are now at a place where we can do a few things since our children are becoming more independent.

What is your best advice for getting past writer's block?

My advice would be to step away from it all before you loss it (lol) literally. I’ve had to go back and re-read what I’d written or maybe even read a different book to get a little inspiration and maybe listen to some music. That usually helps me from time to time.

What was the best writing-related advice you ever received?
The best writing-related advice that I ever received was basically to just write and write and write and write some more. Whatever you’re feeling, experiencing, what you’re going through. That has helped me with my writing.

Please tell us why you feel this way?

Well during the process of writing this book, I experienced so much, and writing allowed me to bolt for freedom. To be one with my thoughts and passion for writing, basically I have a love for words. As a child my parents had given me the second best give besides life was the love of books. Reading and writing became my best friend, a friend that never told secrets or judged me, on how I felt, or what I thought.

How has it helped you, etc?

This has helped me to overcome some of the writing issues, like not feeling the flow. I sometimes have to be in the mode to write or feel inspired by something to write.

Can you tell us a little bit about your latest book?

My book is a Urban Christian Fiction novel, which deals with real life issues, that sometimes we as Christians face on a daily bases. Just because we’re Christians we aren’t exempted from life. We are living in a world full of sin and we’re sinful people, but we are striving to be sinless on a daily bases.  Some of the characters’ in this novel will take you on a wild ride; of all the things that they allow their fleshly desires to do. And even they know right from wrong and they still indulge in worldly things. Just as so many of us today.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

God inspired the ideas for this book. In this industry I believe that we didn’t need another negative entity place in the atmosphere. This book will inspire many individuals as it has done me, while writing it. As a Christian novelist I do believe that I’m responsible for what materials that I place in the world for everyone to see. I also believe that one day each of us will be held accountable for what we do
What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult part of actually writing this book was when I first started writing it the book it had a different titled called “A Forbidden Romance: A Quest for Happiness.  There was a great struggle with how I was trying to write the story and what God was saying to me about what I needed to write.

(Please share why it was difficult as well as insight into how you overcame this difficulty.)

How I overcame this difficultly was I had to step away from the book for a while basically for three months. During that time I went into prayer about the direction I needed to go and how HE wanted me to write this book. I prayed everyday, until I got an answer. A finally I heard from God saying…  The book that you’re writing is not the way you will write it.” He then gave me a new title “A Heart Of Reign”…. I was able to keep some of the storyline and HE told me that I was going to write it, but the way HE wanted it written.

Did you have to do any special research for your book?
Yes! Actually, I did have to some special research for my book, because some of the things that are going on in the story, I had to make sure it was actually possible or could even happen.

What’s ahead for your writing?

I plan to write more Christian novels and even write a few poetry books, including my Memoirs. And I also plan to have my online magazine in print form in the near future. I plan to write a few plays and movies. In other words wherever my craft and passion for writing leads me I’ll go. Whatever is God’s path for me as a novelist I’ll follow it.

What opportunities have opened up because of your writing?

I’ve been blessed with many opportunities to write for many publications such as; several online magazines, I written press releases for businesses, I’ve written book reviews for authors. I’ve even written public service announcements and petitions, sponsor letters for a non- profit organization. I’ve written commercial advertisements for businesses. I’ve written radio monologues and I’ve entered into a few writing contest and was even featured in a few online magazines because of my writings.

Today's Phenomenal Woman is Joy Turner

Today I Welcome Author, Musician, Teacher and Speaker,  Joy Turner.

Joy, The Spotlight Is On You.

Joy tell us what is your writing process?

I always love this question because I sincerely don't have one. I would love to tell you that I organize all of my thoughts in one neatly defined space and then begin to do points A, B, C, etc. but that's truly not the case. I have truly been led by the Holy Spirit during my journey as a writer and I allow Him to have His way in guiding me to write the things I do. I do have to create a balance in my life as a single parent, a student (presently), minister in training, musician and everything in between. I have to find the time to write the things God gives me and then I have to be sure that I create time to hear from God.

What are the pro's and con's of being a published author?
+ creative freedom, a sense of allowing God to utilize my gift in order to be a blessing to someone else. I have enjoyed the divine connections made through my journey as a writer. From the very beginning, I've been truly blessed to connect with some truly inspiring, anointed and gifted individuals.
- I wouldn't call them negatives or minuses but rather "realities" of being a published writer. Once you write the book you are far from finished... your work has only begun. Sales can never be a focal point for a faith-based writer. It can be a goal and certainly we don't EVER put any limitations on the God we serve but if you get into the writing industry for the sales/money, you might just find yourself disappointed. The fulfillment that I have achieved as a writer definitely comes from others telling me how blessed they were by reading my books or how something I wrote pointed them to Christ or helped them to change their lives in a positive direction.

WHY I WROTE THE BOOK
I wrote "Content" because I was always trying to run to California because I always found myself believing that there was always this other life on the other side of the grass that would be almost "perfect." I lived a miserable existence by focusing on all of the things I didn't have, the body I didn't have, the money I didn't have and it caused severe discontentment. This book was definitely inspired by my own life and coming to the understand that God wanted me to live life more abundantly in my "NOW" state. He wanted me to realize that I was blessed in that very moment.

WHAT I HOPE THE BOOK WILL ACCOMPLISH
I hope that my book will help others to realize their true potential and encourage them to tap into the wondrous gifts and brand new mercies of TODAY instead of focusing on tomorrow.

GREATEST ENCOURAGER
My greatest encourager is my mom. She has been through so much and has been my support system from day one... I don't know where I'd be without her. There are so many things that my mom has prayed on my behalf that are beginning to come to fruition and I thank God for my mother and her diligence, patience and faithfulness to God. My son Cameron is also a HUGE encouragement and inspiration for all that I do.

UPCOMING EVENTS - Serenity at Sea 2012 - Christian Authors Cruise (July 28 - August 2, 2012), new release "I Single Parent:" Positive Declarations and Devotions for the Single Parent (TBD)

TIPS FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS - 1) Write. Write. Write. (Habakkuk 2:2 Write the vision and make it plain) No one else can write your vision like you can. 2) Also, don't underestimate the power of networking. God will position people in your path who will provide resources, encouragement and so much more but you have to be open to where He leads you. 3) Do your research. Study the industry and gain an understanding of self-publishing versus traditional publishing so you can make wise and educated decisions regarding your creative written works and your writing career.

Today's Phenomenal Woman is Sherrell Valdezloqui

Sherrell is the Visionary of Promoting Purpose Magazine

Sherrell, tell our readers about you?

My name is Sherrell Valdezloqui, Im 27 years old. I am an Author and the CEO of Promoting Purpose Magazine. I am a very compassionate person that loves to encourage, inspire and motivate others through my expertise in Spiritual Writing. I am rapidly increasing in spiritual knowledge and is always allowing God to use me as a vessel; delivering an on-time message through social media, religious publishing and more.

Of which of your accomplishments are you most proud?

That’s kind of hard to say but I would have to say Promoting Purpose Magazine!

What obstacles have you overcome to get where you are today?

Patience! At one time I wanted things to happen at a finger snap. I became aggravated because I knew I had the potential to grow in all areas of my life but I had to understand maturity takes time. This was in the areas of business, my ministry /spiritual life and etc…

What woman inspires you most and why?

My mom Carol L. Grayson, because she has pushed me and have always told me I would go beyond just being ordinary. Even when it looked to me I couldn't do it she always told me to at least try.

What is your favorite inspirational quote or Bible verse?

"And He said What may be impossible with Men is Possible with God".

Can you offer tips to those who want to launch a magazine?

Ensure that this is something you really want to do, pray and seek God because magazines take up a lot of time it’s like a baby needs all of your attention lol. Do your research and ensure your patience level is high enough, there may be times when you ask yourself is this the right thing for you to do because you may not reap the financial rewards you are looking for if you are in it for money right away. My motivation for holding on is the fact that God spoke to me clearly telling me to start this publication for his people. So therefore I’m doing it as a servant for God and not the finances.

If you’re a spiritual person my tip is to pray about it and ensure it is part of your assignment the last thing you want to do is to jump on a path that’s not yours. If you’re not really spiritual then I would say research and ensure your heart is in it. Goggle any questions you may have about starting a magazine they have some good tips as well.

What is your mission and purpose in life?

To be a vessel for the Lord and speak the things in which he tells me to speak to the mass. As well as push Men and Women of God to seek their purpose and understand it is never too late to start working on your dreams. It’s only late when you take your dreams to the grave never trying…..

What’s next for you? I’ve actually been called to start walking in my calling as a Woman of God teaching and ministering on the pulpit. I’m also about to start a campaign launch for my next book which talks about my life as a CEO at the age of 25. It will discuss the things I’ve been through as a single mom, my gifts of seeing disasters before it happens as God had warned Noah and Moses before things occurred, all the way down to running from God and my calling and etc. The title is called Sherrell Valdezloqui the face behind Promoting Purpose

Where can readers connect with you? Facebook; www.facebook.com/promotingpurposemagazine, twitter;www.twitter.com/sherrellvaldez or my website www.promotingpurpose-magazine.com to view my full bio….

I understand you are also an author. Tell us about your journey to publication? My first book, Poems of Prayers, was written while I was 17, but was not published until the age of 21. The Lord then directed me to write a book that would show a mirrored image of those who were hurting due to the relationship they were in. Specifically, I spoke of the hurt one may occur when in an abusive marriage. The woman that lusted for men based on their appearances happened only because of a dark past she experienced since childhood. Most of my writing are mirror image of the possible life someone is going through and showing them there situation for them to pray and seek guidance.
